New favorite shirt alert!!! I’ve been wanting to make this pattern for SO LONG! (Why do I wait so long to make things that I fall in love with!?) Seriously though – I’ve fallen in love with this blouse and I already have another planned for this year. Keep reading for all the spacey details!
As you may have guessed, I love all things swingy & peplum… and this pattern has the best of both worlds! It is, of course the Blouse Marthe by Republique du Chiffon. A lovely little pattern with raglan sleeves, a boxy shape, and a gathered peplum. I love the chic & comfortable fit of this blouse.
The fabric is really what makes this blouse. I feel like you could sew up this blouse in any fun print and it would work great. I chose to use this space print crinkle chiffon I of course was gifted from an internship. I had to line the bodice (more on that later) because of the sheer nature of chiffon. But I love the light and breezy way this top sewed up in this fabric.
I don’t remember exactly how the size run of this top goes but I know I sewed the smallest size. I didn’t make any fit adjustments as I love the loose, boxy fit and the length was perfect. I did change the sleeve length just for personal preference, and i just did this by eye on the paper pattern and adjusted as necessary once I had sewed it up. I do plan on making another in flannel which I will leave the longer sleeve length.
I chose to line the blouse since I was using a chiffon and don’t love wearing undershirts. I still wanted to highlight the sheer aspect of the chiffon in some places so I thought it would be fun to keep the sleeves and peplum unlined. So I only cut the front and back blouse in lining. It actually worked out quite nice as I was able to clean finish the seams with the lining, so my insides look quite lovely (not to mention the keyhole opening on the back thats all clean finished!)
Have you made this blouse yet? If not .. DO IT! It’s a quick sew and so comfy and chic. I already have my next one planned!
