Instagram destashes are the best. I’ve been curious about this pattern since it came out (I love the cropped version!) But I didn’t consider actually making it till this fabric came into my life and it seemed like a match made in knit dress heaven!

For this post I’m going to start with the fabric, because I probably wouldn’t have made this dress if the fabric hadn’t come into my stash via Evelyn’s destash account. I love florals, especially large scale ones. And the idea of a nice knit in a moody, large scale floral in fall colors absolutely made me swoon… I jumped right on it! This fabric is an absolutely scrumptious double brushed poly, and I’d highly recommend it for this pattern. It’s sooooo soft and drapes beautifully. I’ve been living in this dress all fall/winter.

The pattern is of course the Ebony Dress by Closet Case Patterns. The simplicity of this pattern caught my eye, and I originally thought I’d make the cropped version. I love a swingy shape, and when I got this fabric in the mail and felt the drape of it I had to make this dress (even more so knowing I had enough fabric for it).

I cut the size two and made no changes. I did the scoop neck with the dress length. Almost the entire thing is constructed on a serger except the hems which I did with my double needle. (Although I was tempted to leave the hem raw!)
