Today I’m doing something I truly never thought I’d do — I cleaned out my fabric stash.
As I started making my sewing plans for 2026, I pulled all of my fabric out and really looked at what I had. And while I still love a lot of it, there were also pieces that have been sitting in my stash for years that I realistically know I’m never going to use. Not because they’re bad fabrics — they just don’t fit how I sew or what I’m excited about anymore.
In the past, I’ve occasionally pulled out a piece here or there and passed it along to a friend, but this was the first time I intentionally edited my stash as a whole. I did briefly consider selling some of it online, but ultimately decided against it. I’m trying to be a little more mindful about how much time and energy I give to social media right now, and turning this into a sale just didn’t feel aligned with that.
Instead, all of the unwanted fabrics went to a creative reuse store, which honestly feels like the best possible outcome. Knowing they’ll be used, loved, and turned into something new by another maker makes it so much easier to let them go. It’s a reminder that fabric doesn’t have to live its entire life in my studio to be valuable.
This clean-out has already made my sewing space feel lighter and more intentional, and I’m excited to move into 2026 with a stash that actually reflects how I want to sew now — not how I sewed five or ten years ago.
