The second this pattern came out it jumped to the top of my to-make list. I even had to make it exactly like the pattern sample on the site … HELLOOOO bright yellow jumpsuit?! YES PLEASE!
This is the Papercut Patterns Sierra Jumpsuit. It came out a while back during the jumpsuit sewing craze, around the same time as the Zadie Jumpsuit and I think it was sadly overshadowed by Zadie. (Ironic that both companies have “paper” in the name yes?) You know how I’m not a fan of sleeves for summer, and I love the statement tie that Sierra offers. I also love that you have the option of wearing it solo for warmer weather or layering for a cute fall/winter look. The Zadie does look comfier somehow, so I may try it at some point. But for now, I’m a Sierra girl!
I sewed the full length, tapered leg view. I chose size XXS and surprisingly didn’t have to take any length out of the torso. (And thank goodness because I was nervous about it with that tie) I shortened the legs a little in the flat pattern before cutting out the fabric. To tell how much I needed I just held the pattern up to myself to get a rough idea of how much needed to come off.
I have altered them a touch more since taking these photos. I ended up slimming down the hip curve about 1/2″ on each side. It was a little too pronounced for me and was sticking out more than needed. Other than that the fit was spot on.
I bought this fabric for myself for Christmas at Joann’s at the end of 2018 right before I went on my buying ban in 2019. It is 100% linen although I don’t love the quality. I pre-washed it before cutting and it didn’t wash well. It came out of the wash kind of fuzzy and warm feeling, none of that cool, smooth feeling that linen usually has. Nevertheless I LOVE wearing it. It’s exactly the kind of fun-yet-easy piece I want for my wardrobe.
This pattern came together quite easily. And I was a little nervous because of the magic tie situation at the front. It calls for a center back zipper, but I had a feeling it wasn’t going to be needed so I basted the center back together to test it out and sure enough I could shimmy in and out of it with ease! No back zip for me!
I of course had to make myself some matching earrings with the scraps. I tried a new style this time with color blocked circles. So fun!
See it in action on youtube!
Happy sewing!
