Blog, Inc.: Blogging for Passion, Profit, and to Create Community by Joy Deangdeelert Cho
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I was so excited to read this book because I’ve been really amped up lately about making improvements to my blog and actively trying to gain more readership. I was then doubly excited to meet Joy in person at the NYC book signing – she is such a sweetheart! (Is it weird that I was nervous – like a little kid meeting spiderman?)
Anyway, I was super pleased with everything I found in this book. Joy shares lots of information covering everything you need to know about blogging. A lot of things she mentioned, I was already familiar with (various platforms, beginner html, etc.). However, my biggest take from this book was Joy’s thoughts on developing your blogging style and just being yourself. It seems like something so obvious, but when I look at my blog I feel a lot of it is very systematic, since much of my style so far is developed from what I’ve seen that I’ve liked, and what I know a “good blog” needs. After reading this book I definitely want to make more of an effort to “be myself” in my blogging, and really show my readers what a weirdo I am :). I’ve also learned that I want to spend some time really defining the brand and mood of my blog – Joy really has some great tips on that topic as well.
I also really love the interviews with other “big time” bloggers. Its so refreshing to hear everyones story, because often we forget that those bloggers we admire started out right were we are now, and we shouldn’t get so frustrated! I thought each interview was unique and taught something different. It’s so nice to be able to learn from those who’ve actually made it!
I recommend this book to anyone new to blogging, curious about blogging, or even someone who’s been around a while but feels they have some kinks to work out. Joy really covers all the bases, and gets you motivated to push yourself and be the best blogger you can be!
