Hey all! I’m very pleased to be sharing these two makes and three beautiful fabrics with you today as the last stop on the Style Maker Fabrics spring style tour!
When Michelle at Style Maker asked me to be a part of her spring style tour I of course said yes! I had so much fun participating in her fall tour a couple years ago. Michelle always has a great selection of fabrics for her seasonal releases and as an added bonus most of these are deadstock! (read my sustainable fabrics post for more info on this)
I immediately knew I wanted to use some of my fabrics to make a pair of Nita Trousers since the tour came so close to the Nita release. I also had this hack in mind to remove the pleats so I thought it was a perfect opportunity to try it out. I will be sharing a full tutorial on removing the pleats another time, but I jus love the way they turned out!
The fabric I chose for the pants was this soft washed linen and its sooooo dreamy! Its literally a perfect fabric for this pattern. I love this sea glass color but it comes in multiple colors (hello rust and yellow!) I pre-washed and dried this fabric and it comes out having this gorgeous lived-in feel. These pants are going to get a LOT of wear!
For the top I decided to give the Adrienne blouse by Friday Pattern Company a try. I’ve been seeing these everywhere and have always thought the pattern is super cute. It was a really quick and satisfying sew. I made the XS and the only fit adjustment I made was to lower the armholes about 3/4″.
In the end, I’m not sure if this pattern is really my style. It’s a great pattern! And I think its great for beginners new to knits. But I don’t think I’m into the big sleeve thing on me. I definitely appreciate it as a design detail, I just dong feel like myself when I’m wearing it. Also this one being white – I never where white because I’m messy so I don’t know what I was thinking with that! Also the white adds to the pirate-y look I think? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below. I’m not going to totally write it off yet. I’m going to play around with the styling and see if I can make it work. I could maybe even dye it? In the end it might end up being a destash though.
The fabrics I used for the top are the soft rayon jersey for the body and the embroidered cotton lawn for the sleeves. Let me tell ya, when she says soft, she means soooooffffttt. This fabric is so dreamy and comfy. Very lightweight. I will note that the white is quite see-through. I ended up adding a second layer to the front of the shirt for extra coverage. I’m not sure if it would be the same for the other colors, but keep that in mind if you plan on making a top or dress.
The embroidered lawn for the sleeves is just so sweet and romantic. I was inspired by all the makes on instagram that used woven for the sleeves. Originally I was thinking I would do some kind of sheer, but then this eyelet caught my eye. I think it was a great combo for this pattern, again just not 100% my style.
I have to also shoutout my adorable lime green vintage fabric covered button I found in my stash that I just LOVE with this aqua linen. Such a fun color combo that I never would have thought of before (if it weren’t for Katie Kortman schooling us all about color!)
And those are my Style Maker Fabrics makes! It’s kind of fun coming up with a whole outfit to make at once. I usually sew in pieces and figure out how to pair it with things in my closet after the fact. May consider sewing like this for future makes as well!
Be sure to check out the Style Maker new release page for all the fabrics in the spring collection. There are SO MANY good ones it was really hard to chose! Also follow #smfstyletour on instagram to see all the other amazing bloggers who were part of this tour and get inspired!
Happy Sewing!
