Another one finished in my run of bra making adventures. This one was a gift for one of my fave chicks of all time – my cousin Audie. I wanted to make her a little bra set that would suit her modern, edgy style. So I decided to do some more experimenting with the strappy look as I did on my watson bra(s). (tutorial here)
For the pattern I chose the Oh Lu Lu Josephine bralette. Originally I thought about doing a color blocked look like the samples show, but then I thought it would be cool to eliminate the outer panels all together for a super strappy window pane look. I am so in love with the way this bra turned out. I had to do a lot of fittings during construction and make occasional adjustments to the elastic (Audie and I are similarly – ahem – minimalists in the chest area) but in the end it worked out great.
The undies I just threw together because I had a bit of the gold and black chevron elastic left and I wanted to make a matching set. I didn’t have a simple thong pattern so I just traced out one that I already had and took measurements for the elastic. I’m super happy with the way they turned out, especially since I just sort of threw them together. I made a paper pattern of them so I could use it again. I plan on whipping up several pairs next time I have a bunch of knit scraps.
All of my fabrics were just stash I had on hand. The elastic I got on an impulse buy at walmart (so guilty). The lace was a large swatch I had from my school days. And the mesh lining was leftover from my watson(s). For links to where I get my elastics and notions, scroll down to my wrap-up.
Absolutely in love with the whole look of this set. Its so modern and urban and a little bondage-y. Audie was super happy with it as well :).
Pattern: Oh Lu lu Josephine Racerback Bralette and self-drafted thong
Fabric: Stretch lace, power mesh, .. all from stash.
Notions: Elastics from here, bra hooks from here, slides and rings from here.
Adjustments: Made a lot of adjustments to the elastics, but not really because of the pattern. I did take a little volume out of the cup as the outside edge was puckering.
Finishes: All clean finished with elastic.
Time: Approx 2 hours?
Sew it again? Yes! I want to try the original version. (started a little backwards with this one)
Happy skimpy sewing!
