#Tutorials || DIY: Project Organizer Bags

    Needless to say this project was revolutionary to my studio life.  Not only did it look much nicer but it made my works in projects seem so much less daunting.  I just had to share it with you guys so y’all have the opportunity to experience the same amazing and life-changing transformation that I did :-p

MATERIALS:

Canvas bags – I found mine on Amazon.  Similar here. Teflon universal sewing machine foot Pinking Shears Clear Vinyl (about 1/4 yard) Sewing Machine Thread – I used contrasting

1. CHOOSE WINDOW SIZE AND POSITION ON INSIDE OF BAG WHERE DESIRED.

    Measure out a how big you want your window to be and cut a piece of vinyl slightly larger than that.  Turn your bag inside out and position vinyl in place. I dont recommend using pins on vinyl.  I rarely use pins at all anyway and just held mine in place as I sewed.

2. USING A TEFLON FOOT, SEW AROUND EDGES OF VINYL USING ZIGZAG STICH

     Sew around vinyl edge with a zigzag stitch, backstitching at start and finish.  Try to have the right side of your zig zag be just off the edge of the vinyl.

3. FLIP BAG RIGHT SIDE OUT

4. PULL FABRIC AWAY FROM VINYL

    Pinch vinyl and the fabric behind it and them away from each other.

5. SLASH INTO FABRIC TO MAKE AN ACCESS HOLE FOR YOUR SCISSORS

    Snip into the fabric so as to create a slash to fit your scissors into for the next step.

6. CUT AWAY FABRIC COVERING WINDOW, AS CLOSE TO STITCHING AS POSSIBLE

     Cut away the fabric that is covering your vinyl window.  Get as close to the stitching as you can, being careful not to cut through the stitching.

7.  TA-DA!

     As you can see from this picture I didn’t fuss too much over getting my cutting or my stitches straight.  You can take as much or as little time with it as you want.

8. FILL WITH FABRIC, PATTERNS, NOTIONS, ETC. REQUIRED FOR EACH PROJECT

   When I plan out my projects for each season, I put the chosen fabrics, the pattern, and all necessary notions into each bag, so when I’m ready to work everything is in one place and pieces are less likely to walk off.

9. HANG AND ADMIRE THE CLEANLINESS 🙂

   Store your bags as you please!  I just happen to have this odd little set-in section of my wall in my studio that had these built in hooks where I hang my bags.  Its nice to see at a glance what all I am working on.  Though the bags could easily be put into a drawer or hung in a closet as well!  Combine these with my Works in Progress Tracking Sheet Printable and your studio will be all set!
