I am absolutely in love with this swingy shape on everything. Its so fun and flirty.. just be careful not to wear it on a windy day! I’ve seen this silhouette everywhere lately from dresses to knit tops, and it’s no mystery why. The shape is very forgiving, very flattering on many figures, and very on trend.
For my swingy tank I wanted to do something super exaggerated with the volume. Essentially I was going for the perfect summer top for those super hot days. A barely there style that floats off the body leaving you with a lot of breeze. I think I accomplished my goal here.
The tank is completely self drafted. I originally created this top for my etsy shop Honey Darlin, and you can find it for sale here and here. I gave it a V neckline, slightly cropped length, racer-inspired back, and super delicate straps. Looking at these pictures I think I need to take the under arm up about an inch. I like super open under arms but this might be a bit too open.
The fabric is a striped shirting I had in my stash leftover from a custom curtain project I did a while back. The stripes run diagonally on the fabric, which gave me the idea to cut the top with a center seam so I could do a fun chevron effect. I love the way that turned out, and I love the big bold stripes which are perfect for print mixing in summer.
Since the fabric was a little see through, and I wasn’t planning on ever wearing this with a bra it definitely needed to be lined. I lined it with a simple white cotton (again from my stash) and decided to clean finish the hem with the lining. I do the same for the tanks in my shop, which is actually quite fun because if you were making this tank in more opaque fabric you could choose another print for the lining and make it reversible! – Two tanks in one!! This is what I do for the ones in my shop, as shown below.
I love this flirty tank, it will probably get a lot of wear this summer. I don’t know how it would look with any other skirt than a pencil skirt, but I love it with high waisted shorts.
What do you think of this pattern? Is it something you would buy? (wink*wink)

Very cool shape, requires some twirling! And the white-n-blue combo always looks fresh!
