I’ll be the first to admit that my design style definitely leans toward warmer weather climates. But I’m also a strong believer that with the right fabric substrate and clever layering you can make your spring/summer patterns work year round!
I wasn’t sure exactly what fabric I was going to use for my Audie Playsuit sewalong with Topstitch Makers. I did know that I wanted to do a solid color and something a little more dressy feeling because my first two were printed and casual.
This shiny navy wool suiting popped out at me from my stash and I think its a perfect match. I love the way it almost has a look of faux leather and looks great layered or on its own. I can dress it down with a simple turtleneck and ankle boots or dress it up like I did here with a favorite American Apparel bow blouse. This piece will definitely get me through the holiday party season (if there even is one!)
How do you winterize your favorite warm weather patterns? I’d love to know in the comments!
Happy sewing!
