Patti Pocket Sewalong: Construction Steps 8-16 & the Zipper

 

I can’t believe its Day 6!!! Construction is well under way and after today it will really start looking like a skirt!

A couple notes about today: we will be going out of order from the instructions for the next couple days to accommodate those putting in a lining. DO NOT WORRY! If you aren’t sewing in a lining you will still be able to follow along and achieve the same great results. Just wanted to give you a heads up if your are looking back and forth to your instruction booklet.

Today we will be covering steps 8-16 as well as inserting the zipper. Yesterday we left off at the iron where you pressed everything you had worked on. To start off today, you will head back to your sewing machine with the following pieces:

• center front (D/L)
• side front/pocket/pocket facing (all connected)
• side back/center back (connected)

In the following video I will walk you through all the steps covered today!

You will notice in the sewalong video I don’t go super in depth with inserting the zipper. Many of us have inserted quite a few zippers in our lives and have our own techniques/tricks for doing so. If that’s you, I suggest sticking to your tried and true method.

And thats a wrap! You are halfway there! I love the way sewalongs break down patterns into individual steps that make it feel super manageable even if you only have a small amount of time every day to sew.

Tomorrow we will be assembling the lining (optional of course) & attaching it to the skirt. As well as putting all those lovely pleats into place.
