How to Measure Yourself for Sewing with Patterns

 

When you are a solo sewist, measuring yourself can be tricky. Sure, you may have a spare family member around who could possibly help, but they don’t always know the ropes. And what about all those times you are home alone and ate too many cookies and need to re-take your measurements for this new pattern came out that you have to start RIGHT NOW. (… just me?)

Anywho, if you are new to sewing especially, this short video will help you take accurate measurements of your bust, waist, and hips. Plus a bonus tip at the end for getting the hem length just right (the trickiest part of solo measuring in my opinion).

Dont forget! Once you have these measurements be sure to compare them to both the body measurements AND the finished measurements on the size chart of your pattern to ensure the best fit.

Now you can cut out the appropriate size with confidence!
